Babo Bear II

Babo Bear was initially designed in 2018 as part of a research project on domestic violence. Whereas the first two parts are depicting a wide range of general ‘positive’ and ‘negative’ emotions, the third set of 43 cards handle complex emotions occuring in situations of sexual abuse within family structures (parent-child/sibling-child).

The briefing consisted of 7 specific parts: prevention, exploring sexuality, grooming (the abuser seducing the victim), forms of sexual abuse, the victim trying to put a hold on the abuse, the fear of talking openly about it, psycho-education in abuse-related trauma and emotional transition of the victim in the period of abuse.

The cards will be used both by professional health care workers (eg children psychiatrists and psychologists) and police investigators. The content was developed in close counselling with the above user group and the design briefing was hence very meticulous. An out of the ordinary challenge both emotionally as drawing wise.
